Do you tip your Registered Massage Therapist?
As primary health care practitioners, we try to divide the line between medical treatment and spa services. For this reason, we don’t accept gratuities in our practice; much like you wouldn’t tip your physiotherapist or chiropractor. While we appreciate the kind gesture, reviews and referrals to friends and family are the highest compliment we receive. If you can take a moment to review your experience and use the contact form to leave a testimonial it would be greatly appreciated.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is specifically reserved for you, which is why we kindly ask for 48 hours notice for any changes or cancellation to your booking. Thankfully Megan offers a user-friendly online booking system to make it easy on you. Simply head over to my online booking website to view and manage your upcoming appointments. Having said that, you’re human and she understands that things happen. If you’re feeling unwell and unable to make it to your treatment within the 48-hour window, please call Megan directly at (250) 937-1726.
Do I have to be in pain before I book my appointment?
Absolutely not! Preventative care is incredibly valuable and typically tissues respond better to treatment when the injury isn’t in an acute state. Having said that, massage therapy can help break the pain-tension cycle by reducing symptoms and getting to the root cause of the dysfunction. Other treatment goals may include increasing your range of motion, reducing sympathetic nervous system firing, increasing tissue health and general relaxation.
What do I wear during my treatment?
It is the practitioners primary goal to provide a safe and effective treatment within your level of comfort. For most people, this includes disrobing down to your underwear. In some circumstances; for example, if your treatment goals include a lot of hip and gluteal work, it can be helpful to remove your underwear to better access attachment points. If the sound of this makes you nervous or you would rather have a clothed treatment your therapist would be happy to accommodate this request. Don't sweat it, your all BC RMT's practice draping techniques instructed by the College of Massage Therapists of BC, meaning that only the area that is being treated is uncovered at any given time.
Are you going to hurt me?
Pain should never be an expected outcome of massage therapy, but discomfort within your tolerance can be normal for some people with certain pathologies. If at any time you feel like your body is guarding or that you’re gripping your breath, this is often a sign that the pressure isn’t serving you and it would be best to inform your therapist to make appropriate modifications. Throw out that “no pain, no gain” mantra; the body is an intelligent vessel and will start to heal itself under the right conditions. Our job as RMT’s is to encourage your body to be in a state of equilibrium to initiate this healing process.
Is massage therapy safe during pregnancy?
Absolutely, and at any stage! Megan has taken a variety of continuing education courses to provide the most effective ways to treat common musculoskeletal ailments associated with pregnancy. She also offers the sought-after pregnancy pillow you’ve heard all about to ensure your safety and comfort. Please inform your therapist of any complications you may be experiencing throughout your pregnancy to ensure there are no contraindications for treatment. What kind of products do you use?
Megan makes it a priority to invest in her massage products; it is, after all, on her skin all day! For this reason, she prides herself in using a blend of organic sunflower, jojoba & evening primrose oil in her treatments. And, if you’ve been in before you’ve likely heard about her all-time favourite — calm balm, from Tofino Soap Company! If you don’t know what we’re talking about, head on over to their website to get the low down and order some of their wildcrafted self-care must haves! Did we mention everything is handmade in small batches right here on the west coast? Sustainable and luxurious; a match made in heaven!
If you have any allergies please let Megan know ahead of time as she would be happy to provide an alternative oil or lotion to better suit your needs!
